About us

The Sarah-Louise Ashworth School of Dance opened in Kirkbymoorside in January 2006.

Classes are held daily for children starting from as young as 18 months old. Adult classes are also available. Classes now run in Kirkbymoorside and Pickering.

Subjects include RAD ballet, IDTA ballet, modern, tap, jazz, theatre craft, commercial jazz, contemporary, acro, musical theatre, drama and singing. Pupils may take examinations in all dance disciplines if they wish to with the RAD or the IDTA.  The school holds a 100% pass rate on all examinations taken.

In addition to working towards examinations all pupils are invited to take part in the school’s bi-annual showcase. The school provides dancers for the Pickering pantomime, charity shows, fetes, displays and lots more, giving pupils plenty of opportunities to have fun.

Award-Winning School

Pupils consistently win trophies at the various Stage Dance and Singing Festivals in the North of England. This year pupils have once again been awarded numerous “Most Outstanding Performers” and “Most Promising Dancer” awards at the festivals. The school also encourages pupils to audition for a number of outreach programmes including the Royal ballet associate scheme, Northern Ballet associate scheme, Renaissance, Mike Denman Associates, SLP Associates and Ballet Boost.

In June 2008 the school was awarded the recognised school award by the council for Dance in Education and Training.

Whilst many pupils may not choose performing arts as a career the school feel it is important that correct training is given right from the beginning, so that the doors of opportunity are wide open. Our aim is to encourage children to be confident, well rounded individuals who are sociable, friendly and creative.

Furthermore, the school believes dance and performing arts should be a fun way of keeping fit, a way to express themselves, building pupils’ confidence, encouraging good posture, allowing pupil’s to make friends and giving pupil’s a hobby which they will remember for the rest of their lives.

We hope your time with us will be full of fun and we would like to welcome you to our school.
